Modern Designs for New Construction

A new home usually calls for a cleaner look: flat-top pickets, square posts, and little or no ornament. Wrought iron handles that well and still reads as a quality fence, not a placeholder. You can see how the main styles compare in our guide to wrought iron fence styles in Chicago.

Classic Styles for Greystones and Two-Flats

Older homes look best behind traditional iron: spear or finial tops, closer picket spacing, and posts sized to the stoop and front steps. If a neighbor already has a vintage fence, we can build yours to line up with it, so the block keeps its look.

Front Yard Fences That Meet City Rules

Chicago limits front-yard fences to 54 inches if they are more than 20 percent solid, but allows up to 6 feet when the fence is at least 80 percent open. Wrought iron is open by nature, which gives you more height options out front than a solid fence would. Fences of 5 feet or less that follow zoning generally need no permit, while taller ones go through the city's express permit program. We plan the height and spacing with those rules in mind.

Secure Yards for Kids and Dogs

With this many young families and dog owners, a lot of fences here have a practical job. We can tighten picket spacing so small dogs can't slip through and fit gates with solid latches, so the front yard works as a safe place to play.
